About

Hi. My name is Fay. I live in the midst of pear country in central Washington State, in the United States. I feel so blessed to live surrounded by the beauty of nature.

I draw and paint what I see in sketchbooks, which I make myself, using papers which I choose for their texture and how they play with ink and watercolor. Each completed sketchbook is a little different than the others and contains sketches from a certain time period in my life. Some of my sketchbooks contain local scenes or what is growing in my garden or scenes around my home and local area or people doing interesting things. In other sketchbooks I record things that have caught my eye while away from home. Stories are what stand out to me and visual storytelling Is my goal as I fill the pages in the sketchbooks.

I have come to prefer keeping my work in sketchbooks rather than sketching on loose watercolor sheets. Even though I may not fill each book chronologically, it is nice to be able to flip back through to remember experiences and scenes from the period I was working in the sketchbook. Thank you so much for visiting my site, and I wish you a creative day!

  8. Beautiful work and I like the idea of a sketchbook, but your work seems, to me, to be so much more than doodling. I have just started a diary, like your idea of a sketchbook, of the time I am spending with an autistic, little boy, time spent drawing which he loves, but the best artwork I can do is very quick sketches; he is hardly ever still. I am envious of your patiently built up drawings and this is inspiring to me. Thank you.

  9. Blessings to you for working with such a special little boy. It is so wonderful that he likes to draw! Drawing expresses your feelings, like handwriting does. What you are doing is wonderful because you are communicating with this boy in a way he can relate to. Keep up the amazing work!

  10. Hi… I just found your blog today. I’d love to keep in touch and see more of what you’re up to. Is there a way to subscribe via email? Although I have a WordPress id, my blog is on Blogspot and I haven’t been very active on it lately. clairessketchbook.blogspot.com.

  11. Claire, Thank you for the positive feedback. I do not have the ability at this time to add an email subscription to my blog. Sorry. The next best option that I know of would be to bookmark my site. I used to be on blogspot, also and believe I had that option over there. But WordPress works a little differently. Maybe someday I will be able to add that option. Meanwhile, thank you again for stopping by and enjoying my journals. I will check out your site. Blessings.

  12. Sharon, thank you. I I have them in quilt shops. Do you have a local quilt shop that might be interested in carrying my patterns? Also, you can see photos of the pattern samples on Pinterest at Made.by.Fay (faypaints) under the Fay’s Patterns board. I could work something out with you personally, if you find something you would like to do. Thanks for contacting me.

  13. Dear Fay, when I hit “about” I was disappointed not to find out more about you, where you live, who you are, who your background is in art etc. Am I missing that somewhere? I have just fallen love with your blog and have tacked you on to my blog as a “blog I follow”. ginny stiles.blogspot.com.
I intend to learn from you big time!!! I sketch “almost daily” and am learning more about formats every day. Your work is amazing. And by the way, I am a CZT (certified Zentangle Teacher) as well. This is the “high road” in doodling!

  14. Haha! Thank you for checking my about page. No, you are not missing anything. When I started the blog I was not sure what to write there. I guess I should fill in a few details. One of the details is that I’m a born introvert, so even what I have posted feels to me like blatant exposure! Ha! I will try to fill in more of the blanks on that page. Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it.

  17. Fay, I have never read the ‘about’ and I must say you just say in other words what I learned already from your beautiful, touching and perfect work. You are a beautiful soul and I’m very happy to have made your acquaintance, albeit only online! I send you greetings from France (up to the end of this month) and later on from Switzerland, my home country, to which I’m gladly returning after 12 years in F. This time it will be for good; no more galivanting around (I lived in Canada, the UK, France before, each time for years). Also, please receive a big hug and a kiss for the joy you distribute so generously! Kiki

  20. Hello Kate! Thank you for visiting. Your words are so kind. I am just a country “girl,” now grandma, who has always loved to capture the joy around me. Doodling has been my way of processing life and staying sane. Watercolor became my preferred method of adding color to my drawings about 40 years ago. I love their freedom and vibrancy. At the moment I have no plans for publications or classes. But I can tell you, in a nutshell, that the only “trick” I have is to just draw and keep drawing. Let your own work develop your style out of your personality. Your encouraging message helps me realize I need to make drawing a top priority again. It is easy to allow the stress of life to crowd out the really important things. Bless you! And I wish you many happy hours of drawing/sketching. 😍

  21. I am here because of a small card I received in a package I received from a YouTube person. It is a Blue Jay and is a lovely print. The card has your blog printed on the back and I came to check it out. I do hope you will post more. I am a beginner Watercolor artist and I love seeing what you have put in your sketchbooks. I plan to come back and view each entry for as long as I can. Be well and be safe!

  22. Hello Linda! Bless your heart. Welcome to my little blog. I’m so glad you enjoyed the little card, and then stopped by. Keep up the good work with watercolors. I think it is a “happy” medium because it is free and spontaneous. Happy accidents can turn into serendipity. Enjoy!

  24. Hello Lisa. Unfortunately, I have retired from designing and selling embroidery patterns, due to health reasons. I do not know of any shops that still have my patterns in stock. I am sorry I cannot be of help in your search. I hope you can find one somewhere. Good luck!
